Building a Resilient Destination through ICTs post-COVID

After very successful events in the last three years, this year’s Kenyan chapter of IFITTtalk on ‘Building a Resilient Destination through ICTs post-COVID’ will be hosted online by USIU – Africa on 27th November 2020. The event will include a one-day postgraduate Colloquium on 26th November 2020.
The event is being organized jointly by IFITT, United States International University (USIU) Africa, Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Kenyatta University, Karatina University, and Mount Kenya University. In order to comply with the COVID – 19 protocols, this year’s workshop will be a blended one where a few members will congregate at USIU while the majority of the participants will participate virtually. The target audience is the tourism industry in Kenya with participants from the rest of Africa.
[email protected] 2020 is organized around the theme of Building a Resilient Destination through ICTs post-COVID. The purpose of this seminar is to present stakeholders with scenarios where ICTs can be discussed with a view of informing, educating, and enriching the knowledge of various stakeholders on the use of ICTs in facilitating destination recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following thematic areas will be discussed during the conference:
1. Supply Digital Analytics – Mapping of products, knowledge, and experiences capturing, interpreting, and display, post – COVID
2. Demand Digital Analytics – Inbound and Outbound travel analysis and use of ICTs in driving tourist numbers into the destination post – COVID
3. Driving Demand through ICTs post – COVID – Case Studies
4. Use of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in destinations post – COVID
5. Dealing with COVID-19 pandemic – Destination Case Studies
This year’s event will also include a one-day postgraduate colloquium, where postgraduate students undertaking Hospitality and Tourism Technology- related studies will present their concept, proposals, and theses. A pool of experts drawn from Academia and industry will guide the presenters on the current trends in their areas of study.
